Description

As used by vehicles built for the WA Electric Vehicle Trial and now available to the public, this device ties together several common functions needed by EVs including:

BMS master unit: Monitors your BMS daisy chain (one-wire compatible), providing visible and audible warning when a cell goes out of range, and automatically stopping the charger or drive system (after a delay) if the error persists.
Staged precharging: Handles precharging (soft-start) required by most motor controllers. Includes error detection for precharge timeout (e.g in case of controller failure or wiring fault).
Contactor control: Automatic handling of auxillary contactor(s), which need to be engaged when either driving or charging (but open other times to prevent quiescent battery discharge).
Charge/drive interlock: Prevents the vehicle from being driven while it's plugged in to charge.
Status light and buzzer: A multicolour LED indicates the vehicle status (idle/precharging/ready/charging/BMS error/etc), and a buzzer gives an audible warning on errors.
